NOVAFLAM® not only amalgates all the advantages of the latest version ROTAFLAM® (RV2), it also offers a very easy way to adjust operational settings. The main features of NOVAFLAM® are the combined supply of swirl and axial air - called SAS (Single Air Supply) - as well as a significant reduction in total pressure loss inside the burner.
In-use experience gained through the operation of the RV2 burner verify that axial air must be supplied at a constant impulse. Consequently, Novaflam does not offer the possibility for outlet cross sectional area adjustment. Axial air is thus supplied through boreholes with defined diameters – through the so called ‘Axial ring'. Extensive flow simulations made it possible to calculate the virtually optimal borehole diameters that, through field testing under demanding industrial applications, have proven themselves time and again. Amongst other things, they prevent caking through fluidization at the outlet port.
While axial air at high impulse ensures rapid injection of secondary air and thereby is conducive to faster ignition and complete incineration of the applied fuel, swirl air influences the formation of the flame.
Pillard employs an atomiser whose discharge angle ranges from 15° to 45° and is axially adjustable. When solid fuel is supplied through the mixing chamber (originally designed for the RV2) in combination with defined axial air, obtaining a cigar shaped flame is guaranteed. This is especially important when considering sulphur binding and thermal strain on the fireproof lining.
The new burner, NOVAFLAM®, makes it possible to obtain the desired flame formation through the use of only two parameters. .
